Poet of the Month

There will one Poet of the Month selected for each month in 2008. The monthly winner for each of the twelve months of 2008 will receive a cash prize of $100, publication of 3 poems in a poetry anthology from The Beat Museum Press, and eligibility for the Poet of Year prize.

Poet of the Year

A panel of nationally renowned poets will choose the Poet of the Year from the 12 Poet of the Month winners. The Beat Museum Poet of the Year will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and publication of up to 10 poems in a poetry anthology from The Beat Museum Press.

Honorable Mentions

There will be honorable mentions every month. The number will vary month to month based on recommendation of the judges. All poets who receive honorable mentions may submit up to three poems for the following month without charge, and will be published on The Beat Museum web site.

Contest Guidelines

Entries must be previously unpublished, original work not under consideration elsewhere, written in English.

Deadline for Poet of the Month submissions is the last day of the month. Mailed entries must be postmarked by the last day of the month for that month’s submission. Entries received after the last day of the month will be considered for the next month’s contest.

The 2008 Poet of the Month Contest ends on December 31st, 2008. Poet of the Month winning entries will be automatically entered into the Poet of the Year Contest.

Submissions will not be returned.

All poems should be typed, double spaced, with the authors name, address and phone number on each poem. Each poem shall be no longer than three pages.

We are open to all styles of poetry ranging from experimental work to traditional forms, including short narrative poems, There is a reading fee of $5.00 for a single poem and $10.00 for three poems.

Multiple submissions are welcome.
